One Shell Plaza Office Tower Downtown Houston

One Shell Plaza - East side of Office Tower

Shell Plaza is one of the first skyscrapers put on the Downtown Houston map by legendary Developer Gerald D. Hines. Construction of the 50-floor travertine-clad office tower started in 1967.  One Shell Plaza was completed in 1970, and saw renovations in 1993 and 2011. Two Shell Plaza was completed in 1971, with almost 1000 additional parking spaces in its garage.  Shell Plaza was the tallest tower at completion and its rooftop antenna spire carried broadcast signals of numerous local stations.

The property was sold by Hines Interests LP in 2012 for more than 500 million dollars and construction work is currently under way on the marble plaza at the base of the One Shell Tower.

The building basically has a rectangular design, but its footprint street-level segment is slightly undulated. It received LEED Gold certification in 2009.

Leading tenants are Shell Oil Company (after which the building is named) and Baker Botts law firm. Shell renewed its lease in 2011 for 15 more years.

Plaza Club occupies the 49th floor. In 2013 the Houston Club relocated there from The Houston Club Building, after its merger with Plaza Club. It offers meeting, entertainment, and fine dining facilities.
